Summer Feeding Program

Summer Meals for Kids: May 31 - July 22

FAQs

Are meals for children available this summer?

Yes. The Houston County School Nutrition Program will offer meals free of charge to children ages 18 and under.

When and where are meals being served to children during the summer feeding program?

Starting Tuesday, May 31 – Friday, July 22, 2022, meals will be offered at three schools: Northside High, Perry High, and Warner Robins Middle. Meals will be served between 10:00 am – 12:00 pm. Summer meal service will be returning to pre-pandemic operations due to the end of federal programs allowing bulk meal pick up at drive thru service. Daily meals for all children under 18 will be available Monday thru Friday at all three locations.

Are there drive through locations, similar to last year, where I can pick up bulk meal packs for my children?

We understand that this was a very convenient and helpful service. However, per federal guidance, we must begin to return to pre-pandemic operations. Meals will be provided daily at each site, but children are not required to eat on site.

Do children need to be present to receive meals?

No. Houston County School Nutrition has been approved for a waiver for parents or guardians to pick up meals for kids. Children do not have to be present at the time of meal pick up.

Do children need to be enrolled in Houston County Schools to receive summer meals at no cost?

No. Children do not need to be enrolled in the Houston County School System to receive meals. Any child 18 and under are eligible.

Are there any days during the summer that meals will not be available?

Our locations will close on June 20, 2022 and July 4, 2022 to allow staff to observe federal and state holidays. However, the most up to date information about meal sites can be found on our Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/HCSNutrition

Will vans deliver meals to neighborhoods this summer?

Yes. Six mobile routes will travel scheduled and state approved routes through Houston County neighborhoods to serve children who are unable to access one of the school sites. For specific information on routes and stops, please call Houston County School Nutrition at 478-322-3308.

Can my church or community organization serve as a host site for meal pickups?

We sure hope so! Please call Sybrennia James, Summer Feeding Coordinator, at 478-322-3308, Ext. 3366, in order to determine if your organization is eligible.
