Summer Meals Program: Information for Families
Summer 2026
The Houston County School Nutrition Program will offer meals free of charge to children ages 18 and under beginning May 26. Children do not need to be enrolled in the Houston County School District to receive meals.
There will be three ways for families to participate in the Summer Meals Program. Daily walk-in meal service will be provided at two school locations, vans will serve meals in eligible neighborhoods, and three sites will offer a weekly meal pack pick up service.
Per USDA guidelines, children may receive no more than two meals per day from the summer feeding program. Families should choose the meal service option that works best for them.
Please note: the District will be closed each Friday in June and on Friday, July 3, 2026.

Yes. Traffic at meal pickup sites can become congested quickly. We are working with the sheriff’s office to manage traffic and ensure a safe, smooth experience.

Due to storage capacity at each school, sites will have 800 meal packs available each week. At 8:15 a.m., staff will begin labeling vehicles and recording meal requests. Once we reach 800 meal packs, we will redirect any remaining vehicles and close the line to prevent long waits for those we are unable to serve. Meal service will begin at 9:00 am.
We will post real-time updates every 15 minutes on distribution days. Check our Facebook page to see how many meal packs remain at each site.
The answer to this question depends on the type of meal service offered. The USDA guidelines we follow for meal distribution state:
Children are required to be present and consume meals onsite at any walk-in location, mobile route stop, or community sponsor. Children do not have to be present at drive through locations. For this type of service, parents or guardians are allowed to pick up meals for kids, and kids do not have to be present at the time of the meal pack pick up.
No. Children do not need to be enrolled in the Houston County School District to receive meals. Any children 18 and under are eligible.
