Dear Houston County Staff and Community,
It is an honor and privilege to serve as your Superintendent of Schools. I am thankful to our Board members, school staff, and community members for your support as we begin this journey together as a unified team. By listening and collaborating with one another, we will make the right decisions for our students, as we prepare them for college, career, or the military. Ultimately, our goal is to help students find their passion in life and support them as they make a positive difference for others and society as a whole.
As a school district, we are driven by our mission of producing high achievement for ALL through continuous growth. This means that our school district will focus on the growth of our students and staff. With the advancement of technology, it is essential that we are continuously growing and making sure our students and staff are competitive in this global society. This commitment aligns with our vision of being THE standard for world-class education.
We have a set of beliefs known as the Houston County Way. This tradition of excellence includes:
- Strive for excellence in all that we do.
- Have a professional attitude.
- Go the extra mile.
- Base decisions on what is best for students.
- Provide quality customer service.
- Work hard, with dedication and love for students.
- Approach work every day with a positive attitude, hope, enthusiasm, and compassion.
- Do things right; do the right thing.
As we embark on a new journey this year focused on our students and staff, the Houston County Way Forward will include a ninth belief:
- Nurture relationships in an approachable and collaborative environment.
Our theme for the 2025-2026 school year is Together, we can…. Our staff members will personalize the theme by adding their ending and posting it for others to see. The sign posted in my office states, "Together, we can encourage and support one another."
I am excited about what this school year holds for our students and staff. We look forward to providing our students with new opportunities, such as our new adaptive performing arts team called the Butterfly Project. This is a meaningful addition to our Fine Arts program. In addition, we are piloting Computer Science classes in six of our elementary schools. With the rise of Artificial Intelligence (AI), we must focus on co-intelligence, where students use technology to apply their knowledge and skills of course content. Classrooms guided by the 5C (critical thinking, creativity, communication, collaboration, and character) method of teaching will prepare students for future success.
It is important to remember that we are all in this together! Let’s support one another and have a great school year!
Sincerely,
Dr. Richard Rogers
