The Butterfly Project is a supportive and inclusive theater opportunity for students with developmental disabilities. This program creates a safe and encouraging space where participants can explore their creativity, build confidence, and develop social and communications skills through the performing arts.
With guidance from compassionate mentors and theater professionals, students are empowered to express themselves, connect with others, and shine or stage! The Butterfly Project celebrates the unique talents of every individual, fostering a sense of belonging, achievement, and joy!
There are several options for students to participate:
- Actor/actress
- Set design
- Props design
- Backstage crew
- Technical crew
- Costume design
- Choreography
We are also in need of volunteers to partner with each performing artist during the season.

The Butterfly Project will perform High School Musical in the Spring of 2026. Practices will begin in May 2025 because we will perform one song at the 2025-2026 Opening Session on July 23, 2025.
Our first performance will be at the 2025-2026 Opening Session on July 23, 2025. At this event, the District welcomes back approximately 2,500 teachers to celebrate the start of a new year. Seating at this event is extremely limited due to the number of people in attendance; however, it will be live streamed on Facebook.
Because participation in the Butterfly is not required for students, it is considered to be an extra-curricular activity. No transportation will be provided by the school.
Parental involvement is encouraged. Parents can help with props, set, costumes, etc. Parents can also help us to encourage students, help them to memorize their lines, practice their choreography.
We are in need of volunteers to partner with each performing artist during the season. We especially encourage students who are members of their school’s Partners Club or students with theater experience.
