Our mission is to produce high-achieving students.
Welcome to the Teaching and Learning Department website. The Teaching and Learning Department serves a vital role in the life of Houston County Public Schools.
This website is designed to provide information about our learning standards, as well as the expectations we have for student achievement. As our state continues to incrementally roll out the new Georgia Performance Standards, this website will reflect the current expectations of our state curriculum, as well as the expectations of our school system.
Georgia joined with 47 other states well over a year ago to develop a set of core standards for K-12 in English language arts and mathematics. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent framework to prepare students for success in college and/or the 21st century workplace. These standards represent a common sense next step from the Georgia Performance Standards. The Georgia State Board of Education adopted the CCGPS on July 8, 2010. Teachers in Georgia will be trained during the 2011-2012 school year, with implementation rollout beginning in August 2012.
