WELCOME TO THE HCBE SCHOOL NURSE WEB PAGE!
The goal of the Houston County School System’s Health Related Services program is to appraise, protect, and promote the health of students. Preventive and emergency school-based health services are provided to public school children in grades Pre- Kindergarten through Twelfth. The Health Related Services’ Department of Nursing is an important component of student progress and achievement. School Nurses help assure that Houston County’s students are healthy in the classroom and ready to learn.
School Nurses enhance health within the school and community by providing health appraisals, nursing assessments, periodic age appropriate vision, hearing and scoliosis screenings. Services also include referral for health or dental care, follow-up of suspected or confirmed health problems, emergency health services, and promoting activities to reduce risk-taking behaviors. School Nurses also collaborate with parents, teachers, social workers, and other health care providers to develop care plans, safety plans, identify available health resources, and identify the need for health referrals to address specific health problems discovered through mandated health screenings and assessments.
