What is Accelerated Reader? Accelerated Reader is a computerized reading motivation program open to ALL STUDENTS.
The Accelerated Reader motivates students to increase their reading practice by reading more, while giving teachers a precise record of how much and how well each student is doing.
How Does It Work? To use the Accelerated Reader, a student reads a book from the program's book list, and then tests his or her knowledge and comprehension by answering multiple-choice questions on a computer. The computer scores the test giving the student immediate feedback. Most teachers require a certain amount of AR points or books read, per 9 week grading period. Check with your students Language Arts teacher to find out their requirements.
How Are Students Motivated? Students earn points for each book they read by successfully passing a computerized quiz on that book. These points can then be redeemed for various awards and recognition at school.
