"RESPONSIBILITY is THE KEY at TES"

"RESPONSIBILITY is THE KEY at TES" is a phrase often spoken over the intercom, in the halls, in parent meetings, by the faculty, staff, and students at Tucker Elementary School. This 2008-2009 school-wide theme is reflected and supported through student conversations, faculty planning, and a "customer-first" front office attitude. Tucker has adopted character education programs such as "Second Step" and has an anti-bullying policy in place to support the needs of all students. Tucker was recently recognized for their work in the area of character education by the Jeff Townsend Foundation. In addition, the faculty strives to "discipline with dignity" as they guide each student toward making positive choices.

Dr. Halstead credits the united work of the faculty at Tucker Elementary School along with the community's support for the academic growth and development of their students. Ongoing professional development for teachers and hiring practices that ensure only the most highly qualified applicants are working with Tucker students also contribute to the tradition of excellence at Tucker Elementary School.

Dr. Halstead has teaching experience at elementary, middle and high school levels. Her educational opportunities in Houston County include working as a teacher at King's Chapel Elementary School and as an Assistant Principal for Instruction at Tabor Middle School. She is beginning her eighth year as Tucker's Principal. Dr. Halstead received educational degrees from Auburn University, Georgia Southwestern State University and University of Georgia. She has served as a guest lecturer for the University of Georgia, was selected as one of the "Top Ten Leaders Under 40" by Houston Magazine, and was recently presented the "Crystal Apple Award" by UGA in recognition of her contributions in the area of leadership. Dr. Halstead and her husband have made Houston County "home" for the past ten years.

"Tucker Elementary has an open door policy," states Dr. Halstead. "I encourage students, staff and community members to share new ideas, suggestions and concerns. Families moving into the area and those seeking employment opportunities are welcome to drop in to tour our school anytime. It would be my pleasure to show you a positive learning environment where students are learning that "RESPONSIBILITY is THE KEY at TES".
