Principal Email
“It’s Great to be a Tucker Tiger” is often spoken over the intercom when Dr. Halstead shares the morning announcements or when she is speaking to a group of students. Dr. Halstead considers it an honor and privilege to have the opportunity to work with such a dedicated and united team of teachers, students, and community members. Her past education opportunities include working as assistant principal of instruction at Tabor Middle School and working as a fifth grade teacher at Kings Chapel Elementary School – both Houston County Schools. Before she and her husband moved to Houston County, she worked at both the middle and high school teaching levels in the Sumter County School System. Dr. Halstead received educational degrees from Auburn University, Georgia Southwestern State University, and the University of Georgia. She continues to be asked to speak as a guest lecturer by the University of Georgia, was featured in the “Top 10 ten leaders under 40” article published by the Houston Magazine, and serves on the Perry Chamber of Commerce Education Committee.
Dr. Halstead believes that students, staff, and community members should have a “voice” in the decisions that impact the school. She is open to listening to new ideas, suggestions, and concerns that anyone has to share. Dr. Halstead invites prospective job applicants or those considering a move into the Tucker school zone to stop by the school anytime to meet with her and to tour the campus. The theme of the 2008-2009 school year is "Responsibility is the Key in '08-09". Dr. Halstead invites you to visit what she considers to be the GREATEST elementary “home” in Houston County – Tucker Elementary School!
