Welcome to Shirley Hills Elementary School
Pride runs deep at Shirley Hills Elementary School. In 1993, SHES became a School of Excellence. In 2004 and 2005, our students earned the Writing to Win: Exemplary School of Writing Award. In 2006, Shirley Hills was recognized as a School Bell Award Winner. Our school has made AYP and has been recognized for nine consecutive years as a Title I Distinguished School. We are proud to be named a High Flying Schools Honorable Mention for 2010-2011, and we are especially proud of all the hard work our students, parents, faculty, support staff, and administration put forth each year to be the best school in Houston County! Shirley Hills' third and fifth grade classes tied for a first place ranking in the state of Georgia on the English Language Arts portion of the CRCT in 2011 with a 100% passing rate. This also put them in the top rankings for the Houston County school system for the 3rd and 5th grade ELA CRCT. Most recently, we became a National Blue Ribbon School for 2011. This is a very prestigious honor for our faculty, students, and community. We are very proud of everyone's hard work that earned us this award. Most recently, we were honored to be named as a 2013 Highest Performing Reward School for the State of GA. Based on our past success, we are confident that the coming school year will be another exceptional year at "The Hills".

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year!
Mr. Jack Story, Music Teacher
Mr. Story is our music teacher, band director, and chorus director. He began the very first elementary school band in Houston County, and he is a fabulous instrumentalist! Mr. Story is an Air Force veteran where he played in the band professionally. He has played for several presidents and other distinguished people. We are proud that Mr. Story represents SHES each year at the Houston County Board of Education Opening Ceremonies where he pipes in the ROTC color guard with his bagpipes. The students in Mr. Story's class (everyone in K-5) learn about various types of music, instruments, and ways to express themselves through music. We are very lucky to have such a talented and giving man on our faculty. Thank you, Mr. Story for everything you do for our school, our community, and especially for our children!
