Welcome to Shirley Hills Elementary School

Pride runs deep at Shirley Hills Elementary School.  In 1993, SHES became a School of Excellence. In 2004 and 2005, our students earned the Writing to Win: Exemplary School of Writing Award. In 2006, Shirley Hills was recognized as a School Bell Award Winner.  Our school has made AYP and has been recognized for nine consecutive years as a Title I Distinguished School.  We are proud to be named a High Flying Schools Honorable Mention for 2010-2011, and we are especially proud of all the hard work our students, parents, faculty, support staff, and administration put forth each year to be the best school in Houston County! Shirley Hills' third and fifth grade classes tied for a first place ranking in the state of Georgia on the English Language Arts portion of the CRCT in 2011 with a 100% passing rate. This also put them in the top rankings for the Houston County school system for the 3rd and 5th grade ELA CRCT. Most recently, we became a National Blue Ribbon School for 2011.  This is a very prestigious honor for our faculty, students, and community.  We are very proud of everyone's hard work that earned us this award. Based on our past success, we are confident that the coming school year will be another exceptional year at "The Hills".

Congratulations to our Teacher of the Year!

Mrs. Tamara Kelly, Kindergarten

 Kelly

We are very proud of Mrs. Kelly; she is an outstanding member of our faculty.

When asked about her teaching style and goals, Mrs. Kelly said,

"I truly feel that if students are in an environment where I can help dreams become a reality, it will build a confidence inside that no one can take away. Dreams are sometimes spoken in the form of a wish. 'I wish I could read that book,' or 'I wish I could write that story,' are the types of dreams I hear every day. My daily instruction is sculpted to make those wishes come true, thus building true confidence in my students. I whole-heartly believe that an education is the one thing that can put us all on a level playing field and provide experiences and enlightenment and confidence in a way nothing else can."
