Beliefs and Mission Statement

Overview: Narrative Description of the Process of Defining the Schools Beliefs and Mission

Russell Elementarys staff and stakeholders began the process of defining our mission and beliefs statement by reviewing our statement developed at the time of our ten-year study.

This process involved teachers, administrators, parents, students, and support staff. The School Beliefs Inventory from the NSSE publication, School Improvement: Focusing on Student Performance, was distributed to the committee members, faculty and staff members at the beginning of the 2002-2003 school year. Feedback was collected and modifications to the original Beliefs and Mission were recommended. The committee reached consensus after reviewing the survey collected from the faculty and staff.

The Beliefs and Mission will be framed and displayed along with the county mission statement in the school lobby. It will be posted on the school web page. In addition, teachers will be asked to include it as part of their weekly newsletters.

BELIEF STATEMENTS

We believe:
Student learning is the chief priority for the school.
Students learning needs should be the primary focus of all decisions impacting the work of the school.
All students can learn.
Each student is a valued individual with unique physical, social, emotional and intellectual needs.
Students need to apply their learning in meaningful contexts.
Teacher, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the schools mission.

Mission Statement

The mission of Russell Elementary School is to provide an atmosphere that is conducive to learning and to promote within each student a sense of responsibility, self-discipline, self-worth and cooperation.
