Quail Run Extracurricular Clubs
The clubs listed below are extracurricular activities. Students must keep good academic grades and good conduct grades in their classes. The students must also display good behavior and participation in club activities. Please carefully read the club objectives and guidelines. Due to such a large student body in our upper grades, students are limited to participation in two clubs. Also, please notice the times, days, and number of meetings per month. Students will be required to be on time and to be present except for illness. We will send home a form for you and your child to look at. We will need it filled out and returned promptly. Calendars with the club dates will follow.
1. CHORUS Sponsors: Mrs. Dunston Objective: To learn to sing properly, to gain experience in performing, and to represent our school and student body. Grade levels: 3rd, 4th and 5th Number of students: 60 to 70 Selection of students: Audition 1st week of September Days, time, and place of meetings: Music Room-Tues. & Thurs. 8:00-8:25 Academic and Behavior requirements: Overall good behavior in rehearsal Presentations: May include the following: Perform at Galleria Mall in December, Christmas Concert at School, Choral Festival, and a Spring concert in May Uniform: T-shirt / $15.00 approximately
2. THE ECOLOGY CLUB - "The Green Team" Sponsors: Mrs. Clark, Objective: To provide students with the awareness, appreciation, understanding, skills, and commitment to address environmental issues. To also assist students as they become more aware of their environment by working in our outdoor classrooms, nature trails, and completing projects to enhance the environmental beauty of the school. Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Number of Students: 30 Selection of members: Fill out application with desire to be a member Days, times and place of meetings: 2nd Tuesday of each month from 3:45 P.M. to 4:15 P.M. in room 202 Academic and Behavior requirements: Students must be passing all grades and have satisfactory behavior in the classroom. Members must be cooperative with other students and teachers at club meetings. Failure to meet these standards can and will result in suspension from the club. Presentations: Projects for the school and upkeep of Outdoor Classroom Uniform: None
4. STUDENT COUNCIL Sponsors: Mr. Knutson, Mrs. Simmons, Mrs. Clark, Ms. Melton, Ms. Braxton Objective: To develop leadership qualities in the future leaders of a democratic America. Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Number of Students: 2 per homeroom Selection of members: Classes will vote on representatives. Days, time, and place of meeting: Selected Tuesdays each month, 8:00 am to 8:30 am in the media center Probably 2 meetings per month. This is to be determined after representatives are elected Academic and Behavior requirements: Maintain a B average and S in conduct Presentations: The Student Council will sponsor programs that will promote student involvement with social interaction, community service, and school improvement. Uniform: T-shirts (Optional)
5. QUAIL RUN ART ALLIANCE Sponsors: Mrs. Bell, Mrs. Moore, Mrs. McDermott, Mrs. Folsom Objective: To give students the opportunity to share their talents with the school and community. Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Number of students: Optional Selection of members: Students must be willing to work independently at home on projects. Days and Time of Meetings: Called as necessary in the afternoons..usually the first Wednesday beginning Oct. 2. Academic and Behavior requirements: Abide by all school rules and have all "S's" in conduct Presentations: One project per month. All projects will be done outside of school and displayed in the school or community Uniforms: NA
6. PARTNERS CLUB Sponsors: Mrs. Crenshaw and Mrs. Cumbie Objectives: To develop an understanding of individual abilities and strengths of people with disabilities Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Number of students: 25 students Selection of members: Students must have the desire to work with students who have disabilities. Days, time, and place of meetings: 2nd Tuesday of the month from 3:45 P.M. to 4:30 P.M. in Room 215. Academic and behavior requirements: Maturity to follow directions and participate appropriately with children who are disabled Presentations: Help with Special Olympics, Exceptional Children's Week, Lunch Bunch activities, Sign Language, Nursing Home Visitation Uniform: Partners Club T-shirts
7. WQRC TV NEWS TEAM Sponsors: Mrs. McDow, Mrs. Nelson, Mrs. Lemon, Ms. Strickland, Mrs.Folsom, and Mrs. Saylor, Mrs. Jacques, Mrs. Peisher Objective: Club members will produce a weekly school news program to be broadcast via Closed circuit television. Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students Number of Students: Optional Selection of members: Students will have to audition and be selected Days, time and place of meetings: Selected Tuesdays 3:45-4:15 Academic and behavior requirements: Creative and interested in TV production Presentations: Weekly News Uniform: None at this time
8. SCIENCE CLUB Sponsors: Mrs. Smith, Mrs. Clower, Mr. Knutson, Mrs. Holden, Mrs. Davis Objective: To stimulate interest in science Grade levels: 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students Number of students: 20 Selection of students: We need students who love science. Days, time and place of meetings: 1st Tuesday of each month, 3:45-4:30, Rm. 216 Academic and behavior requirements: Presentations: Uniforms: N/A
9. DRAMA CLUB Sponsors: Mrs. Condon, Mrs. Phillips, , Mrs. Christensen, Mrs. Head, Ms. Melton, Mrs. Peisher Objectives: To develop basic drama techniques through theater games, creative dramatics, Reader's Theatre, scripted plays and Poetry Theatre. Grade levels: 3rd-5th Number of students: 20-25 Selection of students: Must be willing to participate in creative role play. Days, time, and place of meetings: Selected Mondays of each month from 3:45-4:45 p.m. in room 111 Academic and behavior requirements: Creative and willing to act in front of others in the club. Behavior must be excellent during club meetings. Presentations: To be announced Uniforms: None
10. 4-H CLUB Sponsors: Mrs. Oxyer 11. BOOKWORMS & BUDDIES
Objective: Designed for the child who loves to read in order to promote book discussion and an appreciation of literature. Grade levels: 4th & 5th Number of Students: 10 Selection of members: Teacher recommendation and student application Days, time and place of meetings: Second Tuesday of the month; 3:30-4:15; Room 201 Academic and behavior requirements: Good reading skills and willingness to read outside of club time Presentations: Give book reviews for WQRC each month; create posters promoting literature Uniform: N/A
12. CRANIUM CLUB Sponsors: Mrs. Bryant and Mrs. Bacon Objective: To learn to think deductively and inductively, as well as learn strategic thinking using a variety of popular games, including Chess, Bump, Set, etc. Grade levels: 4th and 5th Number of students: 16 Selection of students: On a first come basis Days, time, and place of meetings: Mrs. Bryant’s room, Rm 112, on the 1st Monday of each month, from 3:45-4:15 Academic and Behavior requirements: Overall good behavior in club meetings Presentations: N/A Uniform: N/A
