BAND SITE

MATERIALS
Here are the materials that are needed everyday:
* Instrument (including mouthpiece)
* Essential Elements 2000 Book 1 for 6th grade & 7th grade beginners
* Essential Elements 2000 Book 2 for 7th grade
* Pencil (no pens) (This can stay in your child’s case so they have one here)
* Music folder (I will give each student one)
* Notebook paper everyday (This can be loose in their band folder.)

BAND AWARD SYSTEM
This year, the students have the opportunity to reach accomplishment levels at their own pace. Each week we will have time for the students to pass-off lines out of the book of their choice. They do not have to do every line, however, when they pass-off a line the next one must be a higher number in the book. You must accomplish the following items in order to receive the award.
From Essential Elements Book 1:
* Level 1 Star Band Student Award
Pass-off at least twenty songs up to line 60
Two major scales at least one octave
* Level 2 Exceptional Band Student Award
Pass-off at least twenty songs from lines 61-118
Two different major scales at least one octave
* Level 3 Outstanding Band Student Award
Pass-off at least twenty songs from lines 119 – 180
Two different major scales at least one octave and the chromatic scale at least one octave (At this point, you should have completed Essential Elements Book 1 and can play 6 scales and the chromatic scale).
From Essential Elements Book 2:
* Level 4 Advanced Band Student Award
Pass-off at least fifteen songs from lines 1-49
Two different major scales and one minor scale at least one octave
* Level 5 Expert Band Student Award
Pass-off at least fifteen songs from lines 51-100
Two different major scales and one minor scale at least one octave
* Level 6 Superior Band Student Award
Pass-off at least fifteen songs from lines 101 – 148
Two different major scales and one minor scale at least one octave and the entire chromatic scale for your instrument (fingering chart in the back of the book).
(At this point, you should have completed Essential Elements Book 2. You should know all 12 major scales, 3 minor scales and the chromatic. This is a great accomplishment, CONGRATULATIONS!)
