Principal's Message
Dear Parents, Guardians, Community Members, and Business Partners,
I consider it an honor to be the instructional leader of faculty and committed to serving the needs of our diverse student body, their families, and our community. We recognize that our students are all different in their academic, social, and emotional needs and our goal is to help get those needs met. I am truly appreciative of the awesome beginning of our 2008-2009 school year. Our them this year is "Soaring to Sucess at MES"! We are doing this by implementing changes that promise to help us soar in every area. I appreciate the many positive responses that have come our way and look forward to our many continued successes.
As you visit Miller, our desire is that you feel the energy and excitement as you enter the doors. We also hope that you sense how valuable each and every student is at Miller. Our primary purpose is always guided by what is best for students. Please know that we do have an open door policy, but at all times we must adhere to our security policy. Therefore, please stop by the office and sign in before proceeding to any other area of the building. This is for your safety as well as the safety of our many students.
Once inside the building, please take time to notice the many displays of student work. It is one of our areas of pride and we delight in showing the many talents of our students. I am pleased to say that we have hired several new faculty members this year, and they bring several new and innovative ideas to our hallways.
Before closing I want to let you know that we have many challenges ahead of us during this year. It is now mandatory that all third graders pass the reading portion of the CRCT which will be held in April before they can be promoted to fourth grade. Additionally, it is also mandatory that all fifth graders pass the reading and math portion of the CRCT. In order to accomplish this we are asking parents to stay in constant communication with their children’s teachers so that they can be fully aware of the various tasks students need to master.
I am taking this time to thank you in advance for all of the support you will provide us this school year. Miller is a great school because of the many dedicated people who sacrifice for our students. If we, the faculty and staff, can assist you in any way to make your experiences pleasant here at Miller, please don’t hesitate to let me know. I look forward to our continued relationship.
Sincerely,
Gwendolyn Pearson-Kilgore Principal
