Six Traits Writing Tips for Parents
Writing at Matt Arthur Elementary is based on six characteristics (traits). These traits are not new to education and have been around for many years. As parents, we may not be as familiar with the "lingo" teachers use. Listed below are the six traits for good writing that teachers use in day to day teaching at Matt Arthur Elementary. They are ideas, organization, voice, word choice, sentence fluency, and conventions. Traits give the writer a clear picture of what to do to revise their writing - making their writing be the best it can be.

In order for our students to be successful writers, it is important that parents, teachers and students use the same language and terminology when discussing writing. We want students to transfer the writing skills they have developed in their language arts classes to writing whenever it's used, not just at school.
