Linwood Elementary School
Message from the Principal Linwood Elementary officially became a public school within the Houston County School System on July 1, 2001. Prior to this date, it was a Department of Defense school for over thirty years.
Our mission at Linwood Elementary is to provide a quality learning environment where students excel. Our student population is very diverse. It consists of over 80 percent military dependents and students from a low, socio-economic area. Additionally, Linwood Elementary is a cluster site serving ELL (Early Language Learners) students from three other school zones. We currently have an enrollment of 400 students.
The staff of Linwood Elementary consists of dedicated professionals who strive to make our mission a reality. They continually participate in professional learning activities and have professional dialogue in order to serve our students and their families.
A strong home-school-community connection is essential in achieving our mission. Our families are involved in the various activities of the school. Community groups support our school and its programs. We have a partnership with Macon State College in which their students majoring in education assist our students and teachers. The NCO Academy at Robins Air Base is one of our sponsors. We have family nights and special activities throughout the year. We also strive to provide a wide range of after-school clubs for students in grades 3-5. These include: Chorus, Art Club, Bringing Books to Life Club, Around the World Club, Student Council, Media Helpers, Linwood Leaders/JOOI, 4-H Club, Mileage Club, and Junior Beta Club.
Our school mascot is the leopard around which we've designed several student incentive programs such as "You've Been Spotted Having Good Behavior", Character Education Student of the Week, Superstars Celebration, the Leopard Star Reception, and the School Spirit Day Monthly Celebrations. We recognize our Honor Roll and Honorable Mention students each grading period. We encourage students to read through our "Reading for a Million Minutes" Initiative. Our students give back to the community through activities such as "Jump Rope for Heart", the tsunami victims' fund, and "Pennies for Patients." |
