Mr. Doug Rizer
Principal's Message

Welcome Back! We hope that each of you had a wonderful, relaxing summer. We are excited about the new school year and having your child with us. As we embark on this school year together, we have chosen the theme "United Students Achieve”. We chose this theme thinking of the upcoming elections and the Olympics. As you walk through our halls you will notice a patriotic theme throughout. Our goal is to Unite our Students to Achieve Success.

This year we have placed our parent handbook in the front of your child’s agenda as well as our school web site. Please take time to read over our parent handbook. The handbook will answer many of the questions you may have for the faculty and staff. Most importantly, please take a look at our procedures for parent drop-off and pick-up. We will also send home a letter with all students explaining the procedures for parent drop-off and parent pick-up. In order for traffic to flow smoothly, it is imperative that we work cooperatively with one another.

Our facility has many additional security features. These features were added to ensure the safety and security of your child. One of the first areas you will notice is that the second set of doors at the main entrance to the building has been moved back. This enables us to lock these doors, ensuring that all visitors report through the office. In the morning, the front doors of our building will be unlocked until 8:30 am. This will give you an opportunity to walk your child to his/her classroom if you so desire. Please note that on the first day of school you may walk your child down to their teacher’s classroom at 7:45. After the first day, all students will need to report to the gym and parents will need to wait until 8:00 to walk down to classrooms. At the 8:30 bell, the second set of doors will be locked and will remain locked for the remainder of the day. In the afternoons, parents will not be allowed to walk down to the classrooms to pick up their child. All visitors will have to enter the front office door and check in using the Computerized Security System. Please understand that the modifications to our school have been made to help create a safer environment for your child. We respectfully request that you help us enforce our procedures.

Professionally I am serving in my 7th year as a principal in Houston County. Prior to being appointed principal to Lake Joy Elementary I served as principal at Quail Run Elementary. I have a bachelor’s degree from Georgia Southern University in Early Childhood Education, a Masters Degree from Georgia Southern in Administrative Leadership, a Specialist Degree from Georgia College and State University in Leadership, and completed my Doctorate Degree from Argosy University in Leadership.

Our goal at Lake Joy is to continue to give each child the best education possible. My goal is to make sure that we provide a safe, non-threatening environment for each of our students. Lake Joy is a place where students can feel comfortable and express their feelings in a child-centered environment that promotes student learning through the support of our teachers and community. Our mission at Lake Joy Elementary is to provide a learning community that assists the whole child in meeting his/her highest potential.

My door is always open to parents, teachers, students, and staff. If you have a question I will do my best to find the correct answer. Thanks again for your support. Remember that we are here for you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Doug Rizer
