Linwood Elementary School
Message from the Principal
Linwood Elementary officially became a public school within the Houston County School System on July 1, 2001. Prior to this date, it was a Department of Defense school for over thirty years.
Our mission at Linwood Elementary is to provide resources and services that support a quality learning community where students meet and exceed state standards. Our student population is very diverse. It consists of about 65 percent military dependents. We also serve students from a low, socio-economic area. Linwood Elementary is a cluster site serving ELL (Early Language Learners) students from three other school zones. We currently have an enrollment of 510 students. Linwood has a high mobility rate due to the large percentage of military families that we serve. We look forward to helping our families make a positive transition into the Warner Robins area.
The staff of Linwood Elementary consists of dedicated professionals who strive to make our mission a reality. They continually participate in professional learning activities and have professional dialogue in order to serve our students and their families.
A strong home-school-community connection is essential in achieving our mission. Our families are involved in the various activities of the school. Community groups support our school and its programs. We have a partnership with Macon State College in which their students majoring in education assist our students and teachers. We are a Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring site. We have family nights and special activities throughout the year. We also strive to provide a wide range of after-school clubs for students in grades 3-5.
Our school mascot is the leopard around which we've designed several student incentive programs such as "You've Been Spotted Having Good Behavior", Character Education Student of the Week, Superstars Celebration, the Leopard Star Reception, and the School Spirit Day monthly recognitions. We recognize our Honor Roll and Honorable Mention students each grading period. We encourage students to read through our "Reading for a Million Minutes" Initiative. Our students give back to the community through activities such as "Jump Rope for Heart", "Nickels for Neighbors," and "Pennies for Patients."
I welcome you to Linwood, and I look forward to serving the needs of you and your child. Please let us know what we can do to ensure that we meet your child’s educational needs. I know that your child is going to enjoy being a Linwood Leopard!
