Around the World Club

Membership Requirement: Students in Grades 3-5 who wish to learn about other cultures
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: The mission is to teach students about other countries' cultures, languages, and unique characteristics. In doing so, we hope to deepen students' respect for the differences and similarities found within the Earth's population.
Planned Activities: Each month we will study a different country. We will explore the country's language, food, customs, and traditions.

Art Club

Membership Requirements: Students in grades 3-5 who love art and who demonstrate appropriate behavior.
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: The mission is to provide an opportunity for students to create art work for the school and community and to inspire curiosity and appreciation for all of the arts. The experiences in the Art Club will help develop skills in critical thinking, analysis, and communication among our students.
Planned Activities: Club members will engage in various individual and/or group projects such as using various paint mediums to create a painting, using various household supplies to create projects and will participate in special fall, Chrismas, and spring projects.

Mission/Purpose: The mission of the Drama Club is for you to learn different approaches to self-expression and provide a positive outlet for your creativity. This club will give you the opportunity to see if acting is truly your passion. We have alot to be excited about this year.

Georgia 4-H Club
Sponsors: Stacey Ellison, 4-H Agent; Summer Peavy
Membership Requirements: Students in 5th grades
Financial Obligations/Dues: None unless the member chooses to attend 4-H Camp and other optional activities
Mission/Purpose: The mission of Georgia 4-H is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable t hem to become self-directing, productive and contributing members of society. This mission is accomplished through "hands on" learning experiences, focused on agricultural and environmental issues, agriculture awareness, leadership, communication skills, foods and nutrition, health, energy conservation, and citizenship.
Planned Activities: 4-H members have the opportunity to participate in many activites throughout the year including (but not limited to) Georgia National Fair, 4-H District Project Achievement Competitions, 4-H Camp, Communitiy Service projects, etc. Complete information about 4-H events and activities can be found on the Georgia 4-H state website at: http://georgia4horg.caes.uga.edu/

Junior Beta Club
Sponsors: Delmarie Bentley
Membership Requirement: 5th Grade students who are working on or above grade level and show creditable achievement, worthy character, good mentality and commendable attitudes are invited to join. This club is affiliated with the National Beta Club.
Financial Obligations/Dues: Dues to the National Beta Club are approximately $13.00.
Mission/Purpose: The mission is to lead by serving others. The purpose is to encourage effort and reward merit, and to promote those qualities of character that make for good citizenship.
Planned Activities: Various activities will include (but not limited to): educational puzzle activity, induction ceremony, Beta Journals, hold fundraisers, service projects, create Valentines for staff members, buddy reading with after-school program and/or teachers� helpers volunteer project, recognitions & awards presentation/reception.

Linwood Elementary Singing Leopards
Sponsors: Beth Forrester
Membership Requirement: Open to all 3rd - 5th grade students who have
the desire to sing and experience the joy of music. No audition is required.
Please note that if a student wishes to be a member of the chorus, he/she is
expected to attend all concerts.
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: It is our desire at Linwood Elementary to provide the opportunity for each of our students to discover their individual abilities and talents. Chorus provides a place for students who enjoy music to experience singing in a large group. Participation in chorus encourages working together as a team, exhibiting self-discipline, and promotes self-esteem.
Planned Activities: Performance opportunities including (but not limited to) are Winter Festival, Winter Concert at the Galleria Mall and Community Service (by request).

Linwood Leaders/Junior Optimist of Optimist International

Membership Requirement: Member must be in Grades 3 - 5 and be nominated by his/her teacher.
Financial Obligations/Dues: $10.00 membership fee to International City Optimist Club of Optimist International
Mission/Purpose: The mission is to provide service to the school and community. The members contribute to and represent the school in various capacities.
Planned Activities: The club projects for the year include: school & campus beautification; raise funds for and maintain a clothes and school supply closet for students with immediate needs; raise money for �Pennies for Patients� campaign in accordance with the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society; sponsor a Pastries for Parents activity.

Media Helpers
Sponsor: Mrs. Dawn Pace
Membership Requirement: Fifteen 5th grade and ten 4th grade students will be selected by teacher recommendation.
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: The mission of Media Helpers is to assist the media specialist in providing service to the students and staff.
Planned Activities: The students will be assigned a day weekly to assist with re-shelving books, checking books in and out on the computers, and helping younger students find books using the card catalog and on the shelves. Students will help in the media center on assigned days from 8:00-8:45. From time to time, students will be given rewards or prizes for their services.

Mileage Club
Sponsor: Sheila Burke
Membership Requirement: Students in 3rd - 5th Grades who like to move and demonstrate good behavior
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: The mission is to provide an opportunity for children to improve their fitness.
Planned Activities: Club members will walk or run on the playground or in the gym once a week before school and will keep track of their miles individually and as a group. Students will get awards for their individual mileage, and there will be a celebration when the club reaches 500 miles.

Student Council
Faculty Sponsor/Contact: Sylvia Mitchell
Membership Requirement: Student Council is composed of students in Grades 3 - 5 who are elected by their peers. Each class may elect two members. Student Council members must represent all the students at Linwood. Since we are a school of excellence, we are seeking excellent students to represent the student body. Students must have a B average or above in all academic areas and have good conduct.
Financial Obligations/Dues: None
Mission/Purpose: The Student Council is established to represent the interest of the student body at Linwood Elementary and to provide a communication link between the faculty, student body, and the community.
Planned Activities: The planned activities include (but are not limited to): �Meet & Greet�, Canned Food Drive, Christmas Candy Grams, Valentine�s Day Candy Grams, Hearts for Patients, March for Soldiers, Keep Linwood Beautiful and �Study Buddy� Tutoring.
