The Chairperson started the meeting with the pledge and a moment of inspiration. She then opened the meeting and welcomed everyone. The agenda for the meeting was reviewed. Jay Greene then moved to approve the agenda. Kathy Grayson seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous and the motion carried. The minutes of the May 18, 2011, meeting were reviewed. Kathy Grayson moved to approve the minutes and Rocco Corso seconded the motion. The vote was unanimous and the motion carried. The first order of business was the introduction of new members. Dr. Strevig introduced Carrie Sharples as the Chairperson, Jay Greene of Rutherford Trophies as the Vice-Chairperson and Rocco Corso of Mama Mia’s. Then Dr. Strevig introduced Brandi Thomas as the newly elected teacher member and Kathy Grayson as a teacher member and Secretary. Next Dr. Strevig introduced the guest speaker, Mark Scott, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. Mr. Scott presented a very informational powerpoint on the SPLOST and shared with the council members how the SPLOST would be used for Technology, Safety and Security, and Facilities. The SPLOST will be on the ballot of the November 8th elections. Mr. Scott gave the members an opportunity to ask questions and share concerns and invited anyone who wanted more information to go to the website http://www.sos.ga.gov/mp// or to call the Central Office. Mrs. Sharples then asked for any new business. Mrs. Sharples brought up concerns expressed by parents concerning communication of school changes and wondered if there was a way to update the school’s website with current information and to do call-outs with changes. Dr. Strevig explained that Mrs. Howard is the webmaster and has to meet with classes during the day which does not leave her much time to work on updating the website. The call-out system was down during preplanning which prevented a call-out concerning assignment of classes being communicated differently than previous years. Dr. Strevig said she would advise members who needed to go to the training on August 31st or September 22nd @ 6p.m. at the BOE for new school council members. With no additional new business, a motion to adjourn was made by Jay Greene and seconded by Brandi Thomas. The vote was unanimous, the motion carried and the meeting was adjourned. The next meeting will be October 19, 2011, at 7:30 a.m. in the Media Center.
