Media Center Mission

In the media center, we don't teach children HOW to read..
we teach them to LOVE to read.

"What we teach children to love and desire
will always outweigh what we make them learn."

-Jim Trelease

Media Center Policies and Procedures
The media center is open for all students from 8:00 AM - 3:30 PM. Students in grades K-2 may check out one book for one week. We do not charge overdue fines, however, students are unable to check out new books until the late book is returned. If a book becomes damaged or lost, it must be paid for before check-out privileges resume. Reference books are reserved for use in the media center only in order that they will always be accessible to students, teachers, and staff members

Charming Readers
Reading Log Form

All students at LJPS are encouraged to participate in our "Charming Readers" program. Here is how it works. All students receive a "Reading Log" notebook. Everytime they read a book, or have a book read to them, parents can write the title of the book and the date it was read and then initial it. Without parents initials, students do not receive credit for books they have read.
For every 10 books they read and log in their notebooks, students are rewarded with a special charm from the library staff. Students who work very hard to earn charms will be recognized at the end of the school year during their grade level's award's day.

Our goal is to encourage students to make reading a part of their day...everyday!

Roar Club

THE ROAR* Club (*Recognized Officially As Remarkable)

Parents, now you have an exciting way to instill Lion Pride in your student and a sense of ownership in the Lake Joy Primary Media Center. The ROAR Club! When your child has done something to ROAR about, celebrate by placing a book in the library in their honor. First describe a book that reflects your child's taste or personality. Most books, ordered with library bindings, cost around $15. Then fill out a ROAR Club form (Available in the Media Center), attach your check and leave the rest to us! Mrs. Howard, our media specialist will order a book and label it with your child's name. Your child will be called to the library on their special day and will be the first to check out their book. The ROAR Club allows you to honor your child while providing a legacy of learning for each student at Lake Joy Primary School.

Things to ROAR about: birthdays, homeruns, good grades, touchdowns, and recitals. It takes about six weeks to receive a book order, so be sure to plan ahead. Also, consider honoring a teachers or administrator through The ROAR Club. Let's keep those Lake Joy Lions reading!

Box Tops For Education

Our media center receives 10 cents for every box top that we collect. All of those dimes add up to new books for our students. Save your box tops and send them in to school on the monthly collection dates. For more information on the box top program and to see a list of products that have box tops you can visit:

QSP

QSP

Once a year, we send home QSP booklets for parents to fill out and return to us. The Reader's Digest company then gives us credit to purchase die cut patterns and machine. Thanks to the kindness of our parents we have received over $6000 in free die cut patterns. Keep up the good work! We appreciate your help more than you know......Please click on the link below to get started.

Recycle Empty Printer Cartridges and old Cell Phones

Unsure of what to do with your empty printer cartridges and old cell phones? Well, send them to the media center of course. We box them up and send them to the Funding Factory. In turn, they give us credit to buy equipment and supplies we need for all grade levels.
