Welcome to the LJES Media Center

Ride the Reading Wave to Success

Media Specialist
Lynn Wood

The mission of the Lake Joy Elementary Media Center is to develop lifelong readers and effective users of information.

Media Center Policies and Procedures
Our media center is open for all students each school day. Students may come to the media center for book check-out, research and silent reading throughout the day with permission from their teacher. Students may check out one book at a time. We do not charge fines for overdue books; however, students are unable to check out a new book until the late book is returned. If a book is damaged or lost, it must be paid for before check-out privileges resume. Reference books are reserved for use only in the media center in order to be readily accessible to students, teachers and staff members

Accelerated Reader
This year, Lake Joy Elementary students will be riding the wave to success by participating in the Accelerated Reader program. Accelerated Reader is a computer-based reading motivation program that is currently in use by more than 14,000 schools across North America. Students read a book from the Accelerated Reader book list and then take a computerized quiz on the book, answering simple multiple-choice questions that test recall of basic facts and events in the book. After finishing the test, students get a point score based on the difficulty level of the book and the number of correctly answered questions. The computer keeps track of every student's points. Students receive prizes throughout the school year as they achieve their individual AR goals.

QSP Reader's Digest

Magazine Subscriptions
Magazines, music and book purchases can earn money for our school, too. Anytime you subscribe or renew a subscription to a magazine, please make your purchase through this QSP Reader's Digest link on our media center web page. Just click on the blue words "QSP Reader's Digest" to browse and shop. There is something for everyone!

Magazine gift subscriptions to our media center are an awesome way to show your support for our school! Please contact Mrs. Wood for magazine selection at lynn.wood@hcbe.net or 971-2712, ext. 8.

ROAR Club

ROAR stands for Recognized Officially As Remarkable. The ROAR Club is an exciting way to instill in your student "Lion Pride" and a sense of ownership in
the Lake Joy Elementary Media Center. When your child has done something to ROAR about, celebrate by placing a book in the library in their honor. Fill out a ROAR Club order form describing a book that reflects your child's interests or personality. Most books, ordered with library bindings, cost around $15. Attach your check to the form and return both to the media center. A book will be
ordered and labeled with a name plate. Your child will be called to the media center on their special day and will be the first to check out the new book. The ROAR Club allows you to honor your child while providing a legacy of learning for each student at the new Lake Joy Elementary School.

Things to ROAR about: birthdays, homeruns, good grades, touchdowns and recitals. It takes about six weeks to receive a book order, so be sure to plan ahead.
Also, consider honoring a teacher or administrator through the ROAR Club. Let's keep those Lake Joy Lions reading!

Box Tops

Our Media Center receives 10 cents for every box top that we collect! All of those dimes add up to new books for our students. Save your box tops and send them to school on the monthly collection dates. For more information on Box Tops for Education visit:
