Cafe Book Club

The Cafe Book Club is a small group of students who are chosen randomly several times a year to participate in a book discussion while having lunch in the media center. The book of the month is announced approximately 2 weeks prior to each meeting. Students who are interested may enter their names into a drawing, and five names from each grade are selected. Those 15 students receive a copy of the book with a bookmark that details the meeting. On the day of the meeting, students use their bookmarks as passes to leave class, collect their lunches, and meet in the media center. Students should be prepared to share thoughts, ideas, and opinions about the selected book.

Helping Hawks from first semester

Helping Hawks

Library assistants help the media staff complete activities related to the daily operation of the media center. Students who are interested can pick up applications from Mrs. Holloway in the media center. Students are chosen from each grade level to work assigned mornings in the media center.

Students use an interactive Smart Board to search the GALILEO databases for current events.

Soar Nights

SOAR stands for Sharing Our Academic Resources. HMS media center will open once a month after school hours for middle-school students and their parents in an effort to promote and encourage literacy across the curriculum. Time can be spent reading, taking AR tests, checking out books, working on homework, researching, and using computers.

          * Only HMS students and their parent/guardian
          * Printer and copier available for .10 per page
          * 4:00 - 7:00 each night

Students come in during their connections time to help keep our media center running smoothly.

Cool Hawks

Students can volunteer to be a Cool Hawk and help Clean, Organize, and keep Order in the Library. Students can see Mrs. Holloway for more details.
