Ms. Bronwyn Jardin

Mrs. Jardin is our drama director. She teaches four levels of drama classes, from Fundamentals to Acting to Advanced Drama. She directs the one-act play for regional competition and the school's musical. She has a B.Ed in Secondary Language Arts, with concentrations in Drama and Speech Communications from the University of Hawaii, and has studied at Baylor University and George Mason Univerity. Mrs. Jardin has three children, Seana, Kris and James, a son-in-law, Kurt; a daughter- in -law, Leah, and three grandbabies, Luke, Samuel, and Abby. Mrs. Jardin's experiences include world travel and Air Force assignments to Italy and Turkey. Besides avid interest in theatre, Mrs.Jardin has been a teacher/consultant with the National Writing Project through the Northern Virginia Writing Project, and has published and received awards for poetry. Her career goal is to be the teacher her students need her to be: caring, knowledgeable, and inspiring. Her favorite quote is Romans 8:28.

Ms. Melanie Peavy

This is Ms. Peavy's fifth year teaching at Houston County High School and is the Fine Arts Department Chair. Prior to that, she taught at Perry Middle School for 11 years. She earned a B.S. in Art from Georgia Southwestern located in Americus, Georgia. While studying there, she won several art scholarships. After graduating she moved to Warner Robins and worked as a graphic artist in Macon. She then went back to college and obtained a degree in art education. Ms. Peavy received her first teaching job in Houston County. She started work at Perry Middle School in the fall of 1993. While at Perry Middle, Ms. Peavy completed course work and received her Masters and Specialist degrees in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Art, Math, Science and Technology at Georgia Southwestern and State University. She also has a Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University. Ms. Peavy teaches Drawing 1,2 3, Painting 1, 2, 3, Ceramics 1, 2 and Advanced Placement Studio Art . Melanie Peavy is a native of Colquitt, Georgia. She has two daughters. Allison is 7 years old and Mallory is 11 years old. |

Mr. Wally Shaw

Wally Shaw is a native of Baxley, Georgia located in the southeastern part of the state. He completed his Bachelor of Music Education at Valdosta State College in 1981. Mr. Shaw returned to his home in Baxley where he assumed the responsibilities as Band Director at Appling County Junior High School and Assistant Director at Appling County Comprehensive High School. In 1985 he moved to the high school and became director of bands at his Alma Mater. During his tenure at Appling County High, Mr. Shaw completed course work and received his Master of Science in Teaching from Georgia Southern College. The band program in Appling County grew during Mr. Shaw’s career in Baxley, with the High School band receiving superior ratings at marching contests and district festival five of his six years as director.
In 1991, Mr. Shaw assumed the duties of Band Director at the newly opened Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. The band’s first rehearsal of 12 students was held in the cafeteria as the band room was yet to be completed. From that first rehearsal with twelve students in the summer of 1991, the band program has grown to over 300 students in 2008. The program consists of four concert bands, a percussion class and jazz band, music technology class with its own MIDI lab and two marching bands. The symphonic band has never received less than straight superiors at festival. The Football marching band stays busy throughout the fall entertaining crowds at Houston County High School football games. The Competitive Marching band has evolved into an award winning program over the past few years; receiving superior ratings in all categories and Grand Champion awards in the last two years.
Mr. Shaw holds a Masters and Education Specialists Degree in Leadership and Supervision from Georgia College and State University and Columbus State University, respectively. He is a member of Georgia Music Educator’s Association where he has served as District Chairman of District 11 GMEA and has served as the GA All State Concert Band Coordinator for the past eight years. He was teacher of the year in 1994 at Houston County High School and was selected to Who’s Who among American Teachers in 2002 and 2005. Mr. Shaw has judged both marching and concert festivals and competitions in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. He is a member of Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Fraternity, an honorary member of Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Phi Beta Mu, NBA and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Mr. Shaw is married to Julia Nell Mobley of Baxley and they have three children. Catheryn 23, who is the assistant band director at Perry High School in Houston County; Claire, 19 and a sophomore at Kennesaw State University; and Jim 11, whose percussion abilities have dashed the hopes of his father of a French horn scholarship to a major college or university.

Mr. Keith Tiller

Mr. Keith Tiller is beginning his first year at Houston County High School after spending the past five years as the choral director at Northside. He attended Valdosta State University, where he received a Bachelors Degree in Music Education with an emphasis in voice. He recently began his Masters Degree through Auburn University in Music Education (please don’t hold that against him). He is scheduled to finish the program at the conclusion of the summer term in 2011. In his spare time, he enjoys composing for choir and piano, as well as just spending time enjoying his family. He lives with his wife, Katrina and two-year old Kollen in Warner Robins. They are eagerly awaiting their newest arrival, a baby girl, Kadence who is scheduled to be born on November 2nd. |
