Ms. Crystal Barbour

Crystal Barbour earned her M. Ed. in Secondary Education / English at Georgia College and State University in 2009. Before this she graduated from Mercer University in 1989 with a BA in communication, and later added a certificate in Secondary English Education from Mercer in 1993. That same year Ms. Barbour began teaching at Southwest High School in Bibb County, where she taught 9th, 10th, American, and British Literature, as well as Drama and SAT Prep. After arriving at Houston County High School in 2001, she completed her gifted certification and now teaches 9th grade Honors Literature and Composition and 11th grade Honors British Literature. Ms. Barbour also completed Teacher Support Specialist qualifications and mentors new teachers in the hopes of helping them succeed and remain in the profession. The desire to spend more time with her nephew and two nieces has drawn Ms. Barbour back to the country and the family farm in Byron where she resides with her Miniature Schnauzer Charlie and a tuxedo cat named CT (Crooked Tail).

Mr. Jason Brett

Jason Brett is a native of Perry. He received a B.S. in Communication from Valdosta State University in 2003 and a Masters degree of Education with an emphasis on Instructional Technology in 2004. This is his first year teaching at Houston County. For the past 6 years, he was an assistant baseball coach at Valdosta State University. Before going back to school, he was drafted by the New York Mets in the 21st round. He played four years in the Mets organization. Mr. Brett teaches 9th grade English at Houston County along with being an assistant baseball coach. He and his wife live in Kathleen with their dog, Rawlings. |

Ms. Caroline Cormack

Ms. Cormack earned a Bachelor's degree in English from Duke University in Durham, North Carolina. She then attended the University of Georgia School of Law in Athens, Georgia and obtained a law degree. Ms. Cormack practiced law in Albany, Georgia for several years before moving to Warner Robins in 2000. Deciding that she enjoyed literature more than legal briefs, she began taking education classes at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia to obtain her teaching certificate. She joined the faculty of Houston County High School in January 2005. Ms. Cormack currently teaches American Literature and Multicultural Literature.

Ms. Susan Cowart

Ms. Cowart is a native of Warner Robins. She received a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia and a master's degree in English Education from Mercer University. Ms. Cowart taught for 13 years at Warner Robins High School before coming to HCHS in 2001. She received her gifted certification in 2005. She currently teaches 12th grade college-prep English and 10th grade Honors English. Ms. Cowart is married with two children, a daughter at HCHS and a son at Feagin Mill Middle School. |

Mr. Colton Jones

Native to Cochran, Georgia, Mr. Colton Jones earned his B.S. Ed in English Education from the University of Georgia. He is beginning his career teaching Interrelated English for 9th and 10th grade. Mr. Jones is also coaching football and basketball for the Bears .

Ms. Stephanie Justen

Miss Stephanie Justen earned her BA in Psychology and Communications from Brewton-Parker College. She later received her certification for Special Education, English, and Middle Grades Education from Georgia Southwestern University. Miss Justen is a native of Warner Robins, and graduate of Northside High School; however, she attended three years of high school in Alconbury, England. She has been teaching since 2001 at both the elementary and high school levels. She lives in Warner Robins with her Siamese cat named Chaucer and miniature Dachshund Molly.

Ms. Anne Lyon

Mrs. Lyon received a Bachelor of Science degree in English education from Northern Michigan University. She has taught 7th and 10th grade English in Wisconsin, Oklahoma, and Georgia and was a substitute teacher for three years in Alaska. This is her 15th year of teaching and her 8th year of teaching in Houston County. She taught 9th grade English for four years at Northside Junior High in Warner Robins. She currently teaches 10th grade literature at Houston County High School. She and her husband, who is retired from the Air Force, and her two teenage sons live in Warner Robins. |

Mr. Jamey Richardson

Jamey Richardson teaches Advanced Placement Language and Composition and British Literature at Houston County High School. He has been teaching English for 26 years. He graduated from Dublin High School in 1979, received an English degree from the University of Georgia, a Masters' Degree in English Education from Georgia Southern University, and a Specialist Degree in Leadership and Administration from Lincoln Memorial University.
He has been a coach for over 20 years with championship teams in basketball, football, golf, tennis, and swimming. This is his seventh year at Houston County High School. He and his wife Karen, a Northside High graduate, live in Bonaire with their nearly three year old son, Jacob.

Ms. Melanie Smith

Melanie Smith graduated from Houston County High School in 1999, and earned her BA in Theatre Arts at Agnes Scott College in 2003. She continued her education, finishing her Theatre Education Certificate at Columbus State University in 2004, adding her High School English and Middle Grades Math and English certifications in as well. She was a substitute teacher in Houston County after graduation and began her full time teaching career with 9th grade English and AVID, a study skills elective, at Peach County High School in 2009. She has helped out with the theatre department at Warner Robins High School in 2010-2011, directing their Winter Show in Feb 2011. However, she was proud to come home to Bear Country in 2011. Mrs. Smith teaches 9th and 10th grade English and looks forward to assisting the HCHS Drama Department and Thespians after school. She and her husband of 5 years, who is also a teacher, live in Centerville with their schnauzer, Rocco.

Mrs. Rebecca Staines

Mrs. Staines graduated from Valdosta State University with a B.S. in Education specializing in secondary English, and Columbus State University with a Masters Degree specializing in Leadership. She has taught for nine years, seven of which have been at HCHS. Mrs. Staines has taught grades 9-12, and currently teaches AP Literature and Honors American Literature. She also serves as English Department Chair. Mrs. Staines and her family reside in their native Perry.

Mr. Tripp Turley

Mr. Turley attended the University of Georgia and received an AB in English Literature. He also has an Associates degree in Applied Science in Environmental Horticulture from Abraham Baldwin Agriculture College. Mr. Turley currently coaches Baseball and Football at Houston County High School. |

Ms. Williams earned her Bachelor's of English as well as her Master's of Arts in Teaching from Georgia College & State University. She is beginning her career as a Special Education Interrelated teacher working with 11th and 12th grade English classes. She also coaches JV cheerleading.

Mrs. Yount graduated from the University of Missouri-Columbia and continued her education to earn a Masters in Library Science after realizing one person cannot know it all, but can learn where to find it. In her spare time she likes to ride around the countryside on motorcycles and in her quiet times she likes to quilt.
