Extracurriclular Activities

Research shows that participation in extracurricular activities is the number one predictor in a student's success in their adult life. Students learn teamwork, discipline, responsibility, and many other social skills through participation in these activities. Participation in extracurricular activities is considered an integral part of high school life that enhances the development of the total person. To participate in competitive extracurricular activities, students must meet all eligibility requirements and other policies governing participation as set forth by state and county boards of education.

Art Honor Society	Melanie Peavy
Astronomy Club	Joe Molyson		The HCHS Student Chapter of the Middle Georgia Astronomical Society (MGAS) will explore the universe from dark sky locations around Middle Georgia with support from experienced amateur astronomers.
Beta Club	Dani Cole		The National Beta Club is a student-centered organization which continually develops and nurtures individuals by providing opportunities and experiences which enables them to demonstrate Beta ideals of character, achievement, service, and leadership in a global community.
Big Brothers Big Sisters	Nancy Edger		Big Brothers Big Sisters helps children in need reach their potential through professionally supported, one-to-one mentoring relationships with volunteers.
Chess Club	Maureen Martin		The purpose of the Chess Club is to provide an opportunity for students to learn and/or play chess. Meetings are informal and are for the purpose of playing chess. New members are welcome at any time.
Debate Team	Ken Cavanaugh and James Brock		The purpose of this organization is to encourage students to participate in forensic activities such as debate, independent speaking, and interpretation events.
DECA	Shayna Brown		The mission of DECA is to enhance the co-curricular education of students with interest in marketing, management, and entrepreneurship. DECA helps students develop skills and competence for marketing careers, build self-esteem, experience leadership and practice community service. DECA members are involved with school activities, community service, leadership activities, as well as competitive events.
Drama Club	Bronwyn Jardin		The Drama Club provides an opportunity for those students interested in theatre to expand their skills and knowledge through theatre games and improvisation.
FBLA	Gina Jessup and Del Martin		FBLA's mission is to bring business and education together in a positive working relationship through innovative leadership and career development programs.
Fellowship of Christian Athletes	David Sheperd		The purpose of FCA is to present to athletes and coaches, and all whom they influence, the challenge and adventure of receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, serving Him in their relationships and in the fellowship of the church.
FCCLA	Nelda Clay and Jane Cooper		FCCLA is a national student organization that helps young men and women become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer science education. Chapter projects focus on a variety of youth concerns. Involvement in FCCLA offers members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life.
FFA	Dr. Ronnie Thomas		FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education.
Foreign Language Club	Megan King		The purpose of the Foreign Language Club is for students from different levels of Spanish to get together and practice their Spanish.
French Club	Diana Rineer		The purpose of the French club is to expand awareness of French culture. The French Honor Society is composed of French students who have made at least three semesters of A's in French class.
History Club	TBA		The Historical Society is an organization that allows students to discuss and analyze select topics in history, socialize with people with similar interests, and develop skills in the methodologies in the field of History.
HOCO Diamonds Dance Team	Kathy Wright and Tara Elderkin		The purpose of the dance team is to represent the school at school-wide and community functions by dancing choreographed routines in a variety of styles and to compete in dance team competitions.
Latin Club/Latin Honor Society	Donna Christiansen		The purpose of the Latin Club is to enhance and promote an appreciation of the language, literature, and culture of ancient Rome. The HCHS Latin Club is an affiliate of the Georgia Junior Classical League and the National Junior Classical League. Members are eligible to join the Latin Honor Society if they have maintained an A average throughout three semesters of Latin.
Literary Club	Ida Jones and Crystal Barbour		The purpose of the Literary Club is to promote the creative writing skills of students at HCHS. The objective is to produce a literary magazine.
Math Team	Marlee Heath		The purpose of the HCHS Math Team is to offer students the opportunity to study non-traditional math ourside the regular classroom setting. The team practices twice weekly and participates in several tournaments during the year. Two levels of competition are available: Junior Varsity (Algebra 2 or below) and Varsity (Advanced Algebra and Trig or below).
National Honor Society	Laura Byrd		NHS is a service organization whose purpose is to foster a love of scholarship, leadership, and service.
National Technical Honor Society	Karma Hayes		The mission of the NTHS is to honor student achievements and leadership, promote educational excellence, and enhance career opportunities for the students. It also develops pride and self-esteem and promotes achievement, honesty, responsibility, initiative, teamwork, leadership, scholarship, and builds a strong positive image for workforce education.
Pep Club	TBA		The Pep Club works to create a buzz of school spirit through creating signs, working with the cheerleaders and band for pep rallies, and promoting spirit week activities. Pep Club also sells spirit gear and spirit t-shirts to raise money and school spirit.
Partner's Club	Allison Averett and Wendy Guenthner		The Partner's Club provides opportunities for disabled and non-disabled students to spend time together learning about each others' similarities and differences. A bond of friendship and respect is developed and maintained throughout their high school years.
Prayer Club	TBA		Prayer Club aims to provide an environment of fun Christian fellowship, while glorifying and attaining a better understanding of God.
Psychological Society	TBA		The purpose of the Psychological Society is to learn about the many ways in which psychology is involved in our everday actions. We will discuss psychology in a way that is informative and sensitive to all involved. The ultimate goal is to leave each student with a better respect for psychology and how our lives are affected by it.
Reel Club	Al Godfrey and Todd Pryby		The mission of the Reel Club is to create and enhance appreciation and understanding of cinematography, the historic period(s) a film reflects and the professional community involved in its artistic and technical production.
Sign Language Club	Stephanie Justen		The purpose of this club is to give students the opportunity to learn basic sign language skills such as the alphabet, colors, days of the week, etc. and to bring an awareness of the deaf community.
Student Council	TBA		Student Council is a student service organization. Student Council is responsible for Bear Ball at Homecoming and Teacher of the Month recognitions. Council members also volunteer their time in the community.
Technology Student Association	Tom Seward		TSA is a student-maintained organization that focuses on students continuously learning to live in a technical world. Students will be involved in a number of activities including both computer-based and construction projects.
Thespian Troupe 4974	Bronwyn Jardin		The International Thespian Troupe 4974 is an "honor society" for those students who actively participate in the drama program, having 100+ hours of onstage production and/or technical work backstage.
Tri-M	Todd Wilson		Tri-M promotes the importance of music in our school system and serves our school and community music programs.
