Ms. Tami Atkinson E-Mail
A graduate of Georgia College and State University with both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in special education, Tami Atkinson has taught different special education exceptionalities, in both the elementary and high school settings. She holds certifications in mental retardation, behavior disorders, specific learning disabilities, interrelated and early childhood education. She taught in Jones County for eight years. She joined the staff at HCHS in 1997 as a teacher of severely and profoundly intellectually disabled students. She is currently a Special Education department chair and a teacher of moderately intellectually disabled students. She and her husband, Greg, have four children, Taylor, Cody, Samantha and Carter. |

Ms. Allison Averett E-Mail
Ms. Averett has been teaching in Houston County for thirteen years. She has a BS Degree in Psychology. She also holds a Masters of Education Degree-Special Education (Behavior Disorders and Mental Retardation). Ms. Averett has taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels. She enjoys going with her students to Special Olympic Events throughout the school year. |

Ms. Vivan Brooks E-Mail
Mrs. Brooks is a Special Education Teacher. She is a graduate of the Houston County School System. She has a B.S. Degree in MR and a Masters Degree in Learning Disabilities.

Ms. Lisa Burnette E-Mail
Lisa Burnette is a graduate of Georgia College and State University. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Middle Grades Education with certification in Math, Social Science, and Language Arts. She has added Interrelated Special Education, K-12, and Mental Retardation Special Education, K-12 to her certification. She is one of our SID/PID teachers. |

Ms. Jaquel Johnson E-Mail
Jaquel Johnson teaches Interrelated Special Education. She earned a Bachelor in Mental Retardation from Valdosta State University, a Masters in Interrelated Special Education from Georgia College& State University, and a Specialist in Educational Leadership from Columbus State University. She is currently working on her Doctoral degree in Education. Jaquel is a member of Pi Lambda Theta and Kappa Delta Pi. She has taught in the Department of Juvenile Justice in Macon for about five years and in the Henry County School System. In her spare time, she helps the elderly, sings in the choir, and provides remediation services for at-risk youth. |

Karen Robinson E-Mail
Mrs. Robinson is in her first year teaching at Houston County High School. She received a B.S. degree in Therapeutic Recreation from Columbus State University. She holds certifications in middle grades and early childhood education and has twenty years teaching experience. She is currently teaching SID/PID.

Jennifer Hayes is in her second year here at HCHS. She teaches a Severe and Profound Special Ed. class. She received her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Georgia Southwestern. |

Ms. Faye Thompson E-Mail
Mrs. Faye Thompson is a 35 year veteran teacher in the Special Education Department. She has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Home Economics from Georgia College, a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Georgia Southwestern, an add-on Master’s Degree from Georgia Southern in Guidance Counseling, an add-on Master’s Degree from Georgia Southwestern in Special Education, and a Specialist Degree from Troy State University in Guidance Counseling. She is also certified in Severe and Profound – Special Education Adapted Curriculum. She is married to Larry Thompson, who is retired from Warner Robins Air Force Base and is a Baptist Minister. They live on a farm in Eastman where they raise horses, ponies and goats. They have two children and six grandchildren. In their spare time, they enjoy camping, boating, fishing, and especially, time with their children and grandchildren. |
