Ms. Theresa Alexander E-Mail
Mrs. Theresa Alexander, choral director, is a native of Louisville Kentucky. She completed her Bachelor of Music Education at Wesleyan College in 1991, her Masters of Music Education at Valdosta State University, 2002. Upon her graduation she began teaching choir and general music at Appling Middle School in Macon, GA. In 1995 she accepted the position of choir director at Houston County High School with the goal to start a choir program. The first choir rehearsal consisted of 12 singers, 6 of which signed up for the class; the other 6 were placed in the class. The choir has now grown to over 250 singers. This program offers a variety of choir classes, SATB Ensemble, Women's Ensemble, Men’s Ensemble Chorale and First Year Choir in addition to the choir classes an AP Music Theory course. Each of these choirs have received Superior ratings at GMEA LGPE in performance and sight reading for the past ten consecutive years and continue to grow in their musical performance and understanding. The choirs of Houston County perform in the middle Georgia area; in addition to Washington, D.C., New York City, Orlando Florida, London, Germany, France and Italy. The Ensemble will be a featured performing group for the GMEA Music Conference, January 28, 2005 at 11:00 a.m. Mrs. Alexander is a member and District 11 Choral Chair for the Georgia Music Educators Association and the American Choral Directors Association. Mrs. Alexander is a certified judge for GMEA choir festivals and serves as adjudicator for various GHSA Literary events throughout the state of Georgia. She is a member of Sigma Alpha Iota and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Mrs. Alexander is married to Tim Alexander, an employee of Federal Express and percussionist. Their daughter, Hannah is very active in dance and art. The Alexander family is active members of Harvest Cathedral in Macon, Georgia. |

Ms. Bronwyn Jardin E-Mail
Mrs. Jardin is our drama director. She teaches four levels of drama classes, from Fundamentals to Acting to Advanced Drama. She directs the one-act play for regional competition and the school's musical. She has a B.Ed in Secondary Language Arts, with concentrations in Drama and Speech Communications from the University of Hawaii, and has studied at Baylor University and George Mason Univerity. Mrs. Jardin has three children, Seana, Kris and James, a son-in-law, Kurt; a daughter- in -law, Leah, and a grandbaby, Luke. Mrs. Jardin's experiences include world travel and Air Force assignments to Italy and Turkey. Besides avid interest in theatre, Mrs.Jardin has been a teacher/consultant with the National Writing Project through the Northern Virginia Writing Project, and has published and received awards for poetry. Her career goal is to be the teacher her students need her to be: caring, knowledgeable, and inspiring. Her favorite quote is Romans 8:28.

Mr. Sam Miller E-Mail
Samuel Miller is a native of Brunswick, Georgia and is one of two choral directors at Houston County High. Mr. Miller holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree from Valdosta State University and Master of Music Education degree from The University of Georgia. While in school, Mr. Miller was part of many productions and performed around the southeast as well as tours of Hungary and Italy. Mr. Miller first came to HCHS in the fall of 2003 as a student teacher and has continued as a full time teacher to be part of an ever growing choral program. The choruses of HCHS have performed at Disney World, Universal Studios, Sea World, Carnegie Hall, and many other venues over the past few years. Mr. Miller has also assisted in HCHS Theatre productions of Honk!, The Wizard of Oz, and Thoroughly Modern Millie. Mr. Miller is a member of the Georgia Music Educator’s Association (GMEA), the American Choral Director’s Association (ACDA), and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators (PAGE). He is married to Jennifer Miller and they live in Macon. |

Ms. Melanie Peavy E-Mail
Melanie Peavy is a native of Colquitt, Georgia. She has two daughters. Allison is 3 years old and Mallory is 7 years old. In 1991 Ms. Peavy earned a B.S. in Art from Georgia Southwestern located in Americus, Georgia. While studying there, she won several art scholarships. After graduating she moved to Warner Robins and worked as a graphic artist in Macon. She then went back to college and obtained a degree in art education. Ms. Peavy got her first teaching job in Houston County. She started work at Perry Middle School in the fall of 1993. While at Perry Middle, Ms. Peavy completed course work and received her Masters and Specialist degrees in Middle Grades Education with concentrations in Art, Math, Science and Technology. Ms. Peavy is a member of the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Ms. Peavy teaches Drawing 1,2 and 3. She also teaches Ceramics 1 and 2. |

Mr. Wally Shaw E-Mail
Wally Shaw is a native of Baxley, Georgia located in the southeastern part of the state. He completed his Bachelor of Music Education at Valdosta State College in 1981. Mr. Shaw returned to his home in Baxley where he assumed the responsibilities as Band Director at Appling County Junior High School and Assistant Director at Appling County Comprehensive High School. In 1985 he moved to the high school and became director of bands at his Alma Mater. During his tenure at Appling County High, Mr. Shaw completed course work and received his Master of Science in Teaching from Georgia Southern College. The band program in Appling County grew during Mr. Shaw’s career in Baxley, with the High School band receiving superior ratings at marching contests and district festival five of his six years as director. In 1991, Mr. Shaw assumed the duties of Band Director at the newly opened Houston County High School in Warner Robins, Georgia. The band’s first rehearsal of 12 students was held in the cafeteria as the band room was yet to be completed. From that first rehearsal with twelve students in the summer of 1991, the band program has grown to over 350 students in 2004. The program consists of four concert bands, a percussion class and jazz band and two marching bands. The symphonic band has never received less than straight superiors at festival and the marching band has recently enter the competitive arena and is gaining strength each year. Mr. Shaw holds a Masters and Education Specialists Degree in Leadership and Supervision from Georgia College and State University and Columbus State University, respectively. He is a member of Georgia Music Educator’s Association where he has served as District Chairman of District 11 GMEA and has served as the GA All State Concert Band Coordinator for the past four years. He was teacher of the year in 1994 at Houston County High School and was selected to Who’s Who among American Teachers in 2002. Mr. Shaw has judged both marching and concert festivals and competitions in Georgia, Florida and South Carolina. He is a member of Tau Beta Sigma Honorary Band Fraternity, Phi Beta Mu and the Professional Association of Georgia Educators. Mr. Shaw is married to Julia Nell Mobley of Baxley and they have three children. Catheryn 19, who is a piano major at Columbus State University; Claire, 15 who plays Alto Sax, Contra Bass Clarinet and is a member of the color guard at Houston County High School; and Jim 7, who the percussion section at HCHS has taught many wonderful and intriguing things in both percussion and vocabulary. |

Mr. Todd Wilson E-Mail
Assistant Director) graduated cum laude from The University of Georgia with a bachelor's degree in music education in 2000 and master's degree in music education in 2002. Mr. Wilson has recently completed his Education Specialist Degree in Music from Auburn University.
While attending The University of Georgia, Mr. Wilson performed with the UGA Wind Symphony, Symphony Band, Symphonic Band, Men's Glee Club, UGA Steel Drum Band, UGA Drumline and Indoor Drumline.
Mr. Wilson is a member of Pi Kappa Lambda, an honorary music fraternity, and of Kappa Kappa Psi, a national honorary band service fraternity. Mr. Wilson served as state secretary for CMENC. He has been nominated for the Who’s Who among Band Directors.
Mr. Wilson has been at Houston County since 2002. He has judged solo and ensemble and marching contests in South Carolina and served as a clinician with local middle and high schools.
He is currently married to Mrs. Leah Hammock Wilson who is band director at Bonaire Middle school. They have been Married since 2003 and have four cats with four distinctive personalities. |
