Mission

The mission of the Houston County Media Center Program is to support and enhance the curriculum, provide students with the tools to enable them to research and discover information, and to promote a life-long love of reading and learning.

Philosophy

Media specialists in each of the system's media centers play a critical role in the introduction of new learning technologies, support of the curriculum, and the teaching of information skills in a positive learning environment in which all students can become independent, life-long learners.

It is important for the media program to maintain its traditional role of preserving and disseminating information while incorporating advances in technology for information access. The goal of the media program is to help students become productive citizens and participants in a rapidly changing global society.

Media specialists continually strive

• To provide services and materials in adequate quantity and quality to meet the objectives of the total education program.
• To be active members of the instructional team by planning with the teachers, and teaching media skills that relate to the instructional curriculum.
• To assess the materials and services of the media program for the purpose of identifying the strengths and weaknesses.
• To evaluate and revise the media program reflecting current trends and technology.
• To offer materials which will help students develop critical reading and thinking skills.
• To assist students in acquiring skills for accessing information and using this information in all components of the curriculum.
