2010 – 2011 Registration for New Students

Registration for students new to Houston County schools will be held in July for the 2010-11 school year.  Parents should register students at their zoned school.  School zones may be verified online or by calling the school.  Zone maps are also provided on the HCBOE web page, /zoning.aspx.  Dates for enrollment and required documentation are provided below.  School begins on Monday, August 9, 2010.

All Elementary Schools
Beginning Monday, July 19, 2010
8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to register their children as soon as possible to provide a smooth transition and proper placement of the child. 

All Middle Schools
Beginning Monday, July 19, 2010
8:00 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m.

High Schools
For high school registration, please check with the individual school for the proper date and time. 

Documentation Required for Enrollment

As with all school systems, there are state and local requirements for enrollment.  Parents are responsible for providing the following documentation within the specified time limits.

1. Birth Certificate (Grades Pre-K, K and 1) – Required at time of enrollment

2. Certificate of Immunization (Georgia Form 3231) – Required at time of enrollment
Out-of-state students or initial student enrollments must submit Georgia Form 3231 at the time of registration.  Inoculations for MMR, Varicella, and Hepatitis B must have begun.  Transfer students from within Georgia have 30 days for their records to arrive from their previous school.

3. Ear, Eye, and Dental Screening (Georgia Form 3300) – Required at enrollment

4. Guardianship/Custody Orders – Required at time of enrollment if the student does not live with his or her natural parents.

5. Permanent Academic/Attendance Records from Previous School ‐ required within 30 days of enrollment.  Student placement will be temporary until official records arrive from the previous school.  The new school will request these records, but the responsibility for their receipt rests with the parents.

6. Proof of Residency – Required at enrollment.  You must be a fulltime resident in Houston County. Out‐of‐county students are not accepted at any time.  The following documents will suffice for proof of residency:
• A completed mortgage/closing statement or lease agreement.
• Start services at new address: Electric/Gas/Water/ (Utilities).
• Stop services at previous address (within Georgia or in‐county only).

7. Copy of Social Security Card or Waiver – Required at time of enrollment

8. Medical Information Which Will Impact Instruction – Required at enrollment

Pre-K / First Grade Eligibility

A child is eligible for admission to Pre-Kindergarten if he or she is four years old on or before September 1 of the current school year.  Children who turn five on or before September 1 of the current school year are eligible for admission to kindergarten.  A child is eligible for admission to first grade if he reaches his sixth birthday on or before September 1 of the current school year.

An underage child moving into Georgia may be admitted to kindergarten or first grade if the parents and child have lived outside the state of Georgia for two years and the child has been enrolled in an accredited program.  The child must reach age five for Kindergarten or age six for first grade by December 31 of the current school year.
